Welcome to I Fence Pets!
Since 1991, this is what I do.
I Fence Pets to keep them from the street.  You may have one of my fences or you may be interested in help with your own fence, installed by you or any other company.
Some folks love these fences, other folks hate them.  As I see it, I keep many dogs safe at home that would otherwise be on the prowl.
So why this site?  I thought I'd try and simplify a few of the most important details in dog fence ownership starting with some general troubleshooting knowledge for common ailments.

Anyone who joins I Fence Pet's mailing list will receive battery reminder emails on YOUR schedule.  Wherever you buy your batteries, they cost less in bulk.  Buy a few extra and let me remind you at intervals appropriate for your pet.
For remiinders every 90, 120 or 180 days, simply enter the duration in your email subject line.  Email me here: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
For example, many Invisible Fence owners replace their batteries at 3 or 4 month intervals.  With these batteries usually available from a variety of sources for 30-40% less, many Invisible Fence owners find that buying 1-2 years worth at a time is cost effective.
Keep in mind our dog fence batteries have a 10 year shelf life, so buying 1-2-3 years ahead is entirely common.
Anyway, this is a new site and we will be loading troubleshooting and assorted resources.  Thanks for coming by and please stop back!

The most common two reasons for dog fence escapes PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 06 October 2006 21:29

Most dog fence escapes I see are due to two common problems.  These two reasons account for 75% of issues, when transmitter wire break alarm is not sounding.

1 Loose collars create endless behavior variations.

Example:

Dogs may yelp as they run across the line, based soley on feeling the correction previously.  The association between the tone and correction, in future experiences at the edge of the yard, may cause a reaction much like the dog is feeling a correction, even when a loose collar assures no possible correction can occur.

Be sure not to leave that collar on more than 12 hours at a time in any one position.  Snug collars plus long duration = sores on necks.  I often see angry pet fence owners online, saying a dog fence collar caused their dog neck sores, when the cause is - everytime - the collar was left on too long.  Move the collar and clean it regularly.

Once your pet is fully trained and confidently plays all over the yard, yet avoids the edge of the yard, then a correction level chosen would by definition be the level which overides your dog's level of excitement, all the time.

2 Dead batteries again, and again.

It is critical that batteries be replaced when needed, for some pet owners, buying batteries online (my home site www.hiddenfenceonline.com) in bulk, then having us This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it is convenient.  Others pay attention daily as the collar is put on/removed, to see when the battery light signals time to replace them.
